Hope!

The biggest " Hope" that anyone has after going through the surgery and as the weight starts to melt off is they think that their whole life will change, The sun will come out..angels will sing and life will be one big rainbow.. ..Every bad thought and every bad thing that is happening will go down the drain with the weight loss, but that is NOT true. Everything in your life that is causing you grief or strife is still there unless you handle it. Being thinner takes one less pressure off of you but being thin doesn't automatically make you happy. So many women say
"If only I could loss the weight I will be happy" or "If only I was skinny someone would love me and I won't be so lonely" "If only".... Well Yes some of those thoughts are true I guess but being skinny or thinner does not give you that "golden ticket" Sometimes you just get a whole new different set of problems. But health issues clearing up does make a BIG difference.Feeling sexy about your self and having a good hair day makes all the difference sometimes.;-).

One thing that I was always adviced to do is make sure that I take a children's chewable vitamin everyday like Flintstones after surgery, but my Dr never told me exactly what would happen if I stopped or better yet once I realized that I was not getting enough daily vitamins and minerals to keep my organs and body healthy. We all know that surgery bypasses 15 feet of intestines and therefore our body does not absorb enough precious healthy stuff to operate properly and thus because we do not eat enough of these good things AND our bodies do no extract enough of them our organs and tissues and teeth will start to suffer over time.. Not within a year or two but 4 to 5 years down the road..4 years into thinking that the little Barnie or Dino was doing my body good, it in fact was not.. I was not getting enough Iron or other Vitamins and I had depleted every little ounce of Iron that my body had stored. I became weak and had heart palpation's like crazy. I went to my family Dr and was told that my iron level was at a 9 which for a healthy female was somewhere between 12-15.

My Dr sent me to a blood specialist and after more testing was found that my iron level had dropped to a 7 and things were not looking pretty, I was exhausted all the time, tired and cranky.. yes I looked good and at times felt good but I knew I wasn't doing something right. So I had to be put on a special iron pill that had trinsic value in it to make sure my body absorbed it..Most vitamins and minerals need that stomach acid to help your blood and tissue absorb those goodies but now that my stomach is bypassed those little over the counter vitamins did not work for me..never did..never will....So armed with a script for my special iron pills and a bottle of Optisource ( made specially for Gastric Bypass folks) I headed home to start trying to get my body back in shape..One year later I am still trying to get enough Iron in my body.

BTW Optisource is the ONLY vitamin out there ( that I know of of right now) fully loaded with high levels of B12, Calcium,Iron,Folic Acid and the good stuff for increased absorption.. Kinda expensive at 29.95 for a one month supply. but we NEED it.EVERY post op person NEEDS it.. Check with your Dr please..You take 4 a day orange flavored chewables and they do a body good.

Until next time..Have a awesome day!!

BTW Something my dad has used to cleanse his belly and he feels great! He started it Jan 1st 2009 with his Dr's approval and he has more energy and feels less groggy then he used too. I will start this as well..I thought I would share this with you.I would love to share things with folks that work to make people feel better about their selves.

Me day of surgery

Me one year later
Will take current picture soon

Hello and Welcome

HI and welcome to my first ever blog about "Life after Gastric Bypass Surgery" here you will find out all about what life is really like after having this popular surgery. So many men and women today are so very anxious to have this exciting opportunity to lose weight and get healthier and feel better about their selves that not too many folks sit down and take a look at the long term effects, physically , mentally or emotionally.

Insurance companies will be more then happy to pay for this surgery because in the long run it will save them hundreds of thousands of dollars because of all the problems obesity causes in a body.So men and woman alike who are 100 lbs overweight or more will flock to their Dr's office to get that blessed referral and off they go with stars in their eyes and HOPE..Losing so much weight is such a high in itself that most people do not take the time to study or follow the " after" rules. So here I will try my best to inform everyone not only the good things that can happen with this life altering surgery but the bad as well. I have lost 170 lbs and have kept most of it off over the past 6 years and I wish someone would of taken the time to tell me what long term effects can or will happen after the weight loss. I am very happy I had it done and would not change that for anything but I should of made myself just as prepared for the after as I was for the " going in". So many people who have had this surgery even "stars" have gained the weight back, but with a little forwarned information and facts everything should run alot smoother.

If your reading this post chances are you already KNOW all there is to know about getting and having the surgery it is what happens later that is getting your attention. If anyone has any of their own "after" stories please let me know,;-)

Part of the success that I had after surgery attributes to how prepared I was going in. I know people who were completely unprepared and didn't know how to react to the aftershock. "It blows my mind that a doctor would perform surgery without explaining what will happen afterwards," especially when so much weight loss comes from following what I call "the rules." So IF you have had the surgery or you WANT to have the surgery join my blog and ask any questions you may have and I will help you go through this wonderful experience and sometimes frustrating time together. I will also give you tips and secrets I have used to keep the weight off! Until next time..Thanks and God Bless!!!
